We’re two ordinary middle-class midwestern kids who realized one day that we had become middle-class middle-aged adults on autopilot and off course. Golden handcuffs had us shackled to jobs we didn’t want doing work we didn’t care about. But that’s work, right? Work is what you do to pay the bills. You don’t need to care about it, you just need to do it. Or do you? What if you grabbed the controls and banked left? Banked right? We were so eager for change we grabbed the controls and did a barrel roll. We didn’t know if we could control it but we knew a radical course correction was required. We needed a total system reset. We needed to jump into deep water and sink or swim. A year of saving money became a year of saving money and learning French. We would find our way to this new life as strangers in a strange land.
